Pre-conference workshop
Shaping the Future of Climate and Occupational Health: From Priorities to Actionable Research and Policy
Date: Monday 24 August 2026, 09:00–12:00
Location: Room will be annonuced at a later date, EPICOH 2026, Stockholm
Occupational health is increasingly recognised as central to climate and environmental health. Climate change introduces new and intensified risks to workers – such as heat stress, extreme weather, hazardous exposures, and psychosocial strain- while the green transition is reshaping labour markets and working conditions.
The INTERCAMBIO project is developing a research agenda addressing these challenges.
At EPICOH 2025, a pre-conference workshop brought together a broad range of stakeholders to present survey findings on priorities, identify key research and policy needs, and contribute to a draft research agenda. The workshop resulted in a shared understanding of priority areas and provided the foundation for the agenda.
The proposed INTERCAMBIO workshop in 2026 will build on this work by moving from priority-setting to action. The focus will be on refining and operationalising the draft research agenda, translating identified priorities into concrete research and policy directions. To support the discussion, the draft agenda will be circulated to registered participants in advance of the workshop.
Participation is free of charge however, please note, if you register and do not participate a penalty of SEK 200 will be charged. Registration via the registration form.
Development and application of general population job-exposure matrices: past, present, and future
Date: Monday 24 August 2026, 09:00–11:00
Location: Room will be annonuced at a later date, EPICOH 2026, Stockholm. Max 30 participants, on-site only.
Job-exposure matrices (JEMs) have been a key tool for assessing occupational exposure, particularly in population-based epidemiologic studies. Since their introduction in 1980s, numerous JEMs have been developed for various exposures in different regions, and their applications have contributed significantly to our understanding of exposure-response relationships between a range of occupational exposures and human health outcomes.
After a brief introduction on JEMs and their histories, we’ll look at how different JEMs assess exposure and the type of exposure estimates they provide. Focus of the workshop will be placed on sharing insight on the development process of quantitative JEMs on chemical and physical exposures, with recently developed JEMs serving as references and examples. JEM-developers will also communicate their intentions on how their JEMs may be applied in various studies. To finalize the workshop, a group discussion will take place to explore opportunities for future advances on JEM development and application.
Participation is free of charge however, please note, if you register and do not participate a penalty of SEK 200 will be charged. Registration via the registration form.
